Launched in 2004, the Motorola Razr introduced an ultra-think, metallic clamshell shape that turned a basic communication gadget into a major fashion statement. However, Motorola optimized for design instead of functionality while the market shifted toward phones that did more: better internet, email, cameras, music, apps, and teventually ouchscreens. The iPhone in 2007 changed what consumers wanted from a phone, and Motorola didn’t have a competitive touchscreen smartphone ready.
